Bismuth is a rare metal that has been used by shamans and other healers around the world for eons. Bismuth crystals (which grow under the proper temperatures) are known for their metaphysical properties that can help initiate transformation, healing, and creativity. Reiki practitioners use them to facilitate the KI energy (a.k.a. prana, chi, etc.) to the recipient.
Bismuth crystals are one-of-a-kind geometric patterns that form when the crystalline white metal bismuth solidifies and expands after melting. They are known for their unique spiral staircase structure and vibrant colors.
Bismuth crystals form a spiral staircase structure because the metal grows faster around the edges than in the middle. Bismuth also has a rhombohedral unit cell, which is a rhombus-shaped cell with one wider angle than the other two. This structure is uncommon in other metals and elements, making bismuth crystals of interest to researchers and crystal enthusiasts.
Bismuth crystals can appear in many colors, including pink, purple, green, blue, and yellow, when oxidized with heat and then cooled. The colors are caused by variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the crystal's surface, which makes different wavelengths of light interfere with each other when reflected.
